facebook?

I am surrounded by people who are raving about how Facebook has enabled them to reach out and rekindle friendships and associations that have long since faded from existence. Everyone is wild about seeing if so and so is on Facebook, or debating whether they should initiate a reach-out with a simple poke.

I am both reluctant and hesitant to join in all of this 'fun'. I have led a purely anonymous existence on-line for the entirety of my on-line existence. Certainly those of you who read this blog regularly have read the bits and pieces that I leave of verifiable facts. You also have the sense of who I am by what I write in each and every post, but can you make any real and substantial connection with me? Do I want such connections?

I prefer this concept of a me without posessions, a me without a body, a me without a specific geography or boundary. Put me on Facebook and you've narrowed me down to a single sentient person with limits defined by image and reality.

How odd it would be to all of a sudden see who L>T's circle of friends are with all of their photos and their favourite movies. All I know is L>T, do her friends and their taste in movies define her? How strange would it be to see the hundreds if not thousands of people that have passed through ghost's doors as a linked-student-teacher association in facebook and learn that their cumulative favourite colour is plaid? Does this say anything about ghost's teaching skill?

I think I'll take The OE's viewpoint and simply say that a secret agent would never submit to such a website.

That's the first I've heard of facebook. I do like looking at photos, even ones of people I don't know but even so facebook doesn't really interest. I'm not that interested in searching out people I've long since lost contact with, although there was that boy from Grade 10...................
Nah, then again I don't want to see that he's turned into a skinny, wizened up old man.

i heard of facebook recently. i figured, what the hey, i'd get one. so far only three people have linked to me...and they're all from my current life. if anyone else links to me i'll be both astounded and surprised (and redundant).

i joined, and there are things i like and things i don't. i have found people that i went to elementary school with and high school with back in toronto and its neat to see what they are up to, photos of what they look like now and such. some of them are even out here and we are going to meet up. but the first option they give for finding friends is to give them your email addy and password so they can get at your contacts list and search for all those email addresses in facebook. i did, and i haven't seen any increase in spam at all... now that i've connected with these people i could just get their other contact info and then close down my facebook. but i do like how some people put up lots of photos, especially of places they've traveled. those are neat to see.
