dim orl quid

I received a message from Dimitri Orlov that the Quidnon project is now dead in the water, so to speak.

My idea about having a Quidnon was to retire in one with friends; sail up to Canada during the summer months and anchor somewhere within easy reach of a shoreline grocery store. In the winter, anchor somewhere in the Caribbean, doing the same.

To be in a position to do this I would first need to learn to sail; buy a smaller boat to gain experience, perhaps upgrade to a somewhat larger boat that could handle longer trips to practice longer distance cruising and then finally build the Quidnon.

One cynical definition of a boat is 'a hole in the water into which money is thrown'. So while the idea of sailing in general, and retiring to a boat more specifically does appeal, it seems I will need to sail vicariously through the few U-tubers I follow who are doing this. It may be a more pecuniarily wise decision to devote what funds I have that could have gone towards sailing to simply get invested as part of my retirement fund to eventually fund the Retirement House idea.

Part of me is still enamoured with the idea of sailing; however, I know that if it isn't reasonably easy to do this; I likely wouldn't make sufficient use of the boat to balance the cost of it. As an example, I have a kayak in my basement locker; I've gone kayaking once last summer and once this summer. It is a bit of an ordeal to get it out and make use of it. If the kayak was at the shore and I lived at the shore, I'd be much more likely to take it out regularly.

Similarly, if the sailboat was at a marina, and I could just go to the marina and sail it out; that ought to increase my likelihood to use it. This also increases the cost.

I just gogoled the boat show in my city, it is in February. Maybe I'll go just for fun.

when dandelion tea doesn't bake the cake

On Tuesday this week I went to the gym and ran 11 minutes, then did 10-8-6-4-2 of pull-ups, squats holding 20lbs, push-ups, reverse-lunges holding 10lbs in each hand and then leg raises.

Today is two days later and I am aching, still. I plan on doing the routine again tomorrow but raising the weights for both the squats and the reverse-lunges - it was too easy with the weights I chose.

In other news, Dimtry responded to my Quidnon questions. I'm looking forward to building one someday.

Finally, after this week of work is done, the next two weeks I'll be working 2AM to 10AM to replace one of my coworkers who works in the EMEA and is off.

obviously, the corroborative

I do not tend to ever complain of being hungry. When I hear people say 'I'm hungry', to me it is a sharing of information that accomplishes nothing, serves no purpose, and is a sign of an inability to deal with being hungry.

I'm quite pleased with the Quidnon 2.0 redesign, it will be much easier to build. Still, I haven't a great track record with respect to being 'handy', so I'd likely hire some skilled workers to do much of the work and I'd be around to help move things into place, or do the jobs that do not require a lot of skill.

In other news, the new CAQ government is getting sworn into government today. We'll have to see how the next four years go as they have a majority and they have some changes in mind.

Finally, I feel really bad for the fiançee of Jamal Khashoggi. They were planning their wedding and he needed documents from the Saudi kingdom to make it happen, so in the Saudi embassy in Turkey he went in while she waited outside. He hasn't been seen since and is likely in dismembered pieces somewhere in the Turkish waste management system, or in parts that were shipped back to Saudi.

when the twigs catch a cold

When bargaining with a calamity that needn't barter with the majority, the minority wouldn't keep from noticing.

There will be a shift in mid-November that has my role change; it will be at a different pace, I expect, and will change the level of customer interaction I have. As with all things, there are positives and there are negatives.

That a storm named 'Michael' could cause such trouble has the Mikes all over the world being shunned. I wonder how far from the central eye of such storms one would have to be such that being in a Quidnon would be safe out in the open water. By design this boat is virtually uncapsizable, and even should it capsize, it is self righting.

Writing the above had me go back and check, and now the Quidnon 2.0 is a barge. Still, I am interested.

dictionary goes on vacation selling rhubarb

I was giving some thought to AXY3 yesterday.

Also, to the idea of taking up vacant city downtown mall space to put out tables and chairs all aimed towards a central stage where music performances take place at lunch times.

Also, about sailing to the 17 or 18th northern latitudes during the winter.

With respect to AXY3, 2023 is not far away, so if I was going to do something I'd need to get started soon. I would want to give as many of the 2023 birth year cohort the opportunity to become a member. At the age of zero there is no cost nor obligation; however, as that cohort ages and as the AXY3 Foundation accumulates funds and experience, the foundation can be there to assist this youngest cohort. It is daunting, but the idea would be to staff birthing centers from midnight Dec 31 2022 until midnight Dec 31 2023, and hand to each family member of a new born a pamphlet that describes the AXY3 foundation and ask them to register. The pamphlet would offer that as the child grows, assistance can be available to that child, and as the child grows, mentorship and leadership will be provided/taught as well as educational assistance, job seeking and career development. The ideal member then contributes to future AXY3 cohorts; though there is no obligation. For current AXY3 membership we'd need to find a way to touch the hearts of membership to open their wallets for the purposes of helping future cohorts. In principle a small monthly contribution from a large membership could really add up. The other way that current AXY3 members could help is in the help of each other - helping someone move, helping them find a job, an older member mentoring a younger one, members that are handy can help those who aren't, members who are tech savvy can help those who aren't. Another thought that came to me was the idea of helping family members of the AXY3 members - my vision does not include this. By raising the AXY3 member through assistance to that member, the member him or herself will be presented with the skills and abilities to help his or her family. Perhaps this is strict, but if the family members want to start their own AXY? for a different birth year, it is up to them.

For the music in the city; have very small tables with single chairs in a semi-circle closest to the stage, and depending on the size of the space, a second row of small tables and single chairs. In the next one or two subsequent rows, have slightly larger tables with two chairs each; in the next row, a single row of larger tables with three chairs each and then finally, with whatever room remains, have tables with four chairs. In the cases of the single chair and two-chair tables, all chairs face the stage. In the case of the 3 and 4 person tables, have the table in a semi-circle shape and have the chairs all around the semi circle, facing the stage. The principle is that often there are people I see in the food courts that are eating all on their own; so give them the single seats at the front. There are also small groups of two, three or four and occasionally larger groups. Imprinted on the table is a QR code with a brief description about paying the musician. When they scan the QR code with their device, it brings them to a site where they can easily make a fixed donation of 1, 2, 5 or 10$ or some 'other' amount, and 90% of that money will go to the musician, the remaining 10% goes for administrating this online system and any transactional fees incurred by accepting the payment. Other additions to the space would be acoustical elements to help with the sound. Specifically, I would want to have the space visible from the outside, but only in gaps where there are sound deflecting curtains hung. To get the musicians or performers, scour music schools across the city. Go to high schools that have music programs and ask the faculty there if there could be room for higher achieving music students to gain experience by pulling them out of school a few times during the school year to perform at one of these places. Another idea I had, though I am not sure how it would work; would be to have two similar performers take turns, and then people could vote for their preference with the donations they make. The largest obstacle is raising the funds to rent the space in the malls and paying for the renovation required to get the stage, tables and chairs in place. I do not have a solution for this, presently.

With respect to sailing south in the winter; I'd have to start with a small sailboat, gain experience, and then upgrade, and then upgrade again. I don't know if a Quidnon would really work for me unless I had three to five additional crew mates that stayed with me. Perhaps I could post an ad asking for crew mates and see what comes of it. There is still the house to sell, and before that, the house to prepare for sale, so all of this part of the conversation is moot until that happens.

There is more I could write about any of the above three topics, but for now I think I will leave it as is.

hear here hare wharf

That a train traveling at 265 kph sold Melba toast to only the passengers sitting on odd-numbered seats for a discounted price tells little about the agency with which a rank smudge gets ranked as a byproduct of equine felines belching much like a canine rodent would.

Being listless is not exactly equal to not having lists whereas being hairless is pretty much equal to not having hair.

So when adding up terms like 'lonely', 'alone', 'depression' and 'social isolation'; how many of these can be directly related to the advanced usage of social media?

I do not know of sufficient evidence to point the finger, but then, I have spent only a fraction of a pico-second looking for it.

If I stay healthy long enough, I may get to witness a singularity that changes dramatically, civilization as we know it to exist today. Some figure that this singularity may be to the detriment of humanity; I prefer to keep an open mind.

I haven't felt lonely or depressed in a really long time. I have been alone more since I have moved into an apartment. I can see that I may become more socially isolated unless I make some very purposeful decisions on an ongoing basis.

Though I missed the Book Group meeting for 'How to be Good' (Nick Hornby) I did end up reading it. It has really focused my thoughts on the idea of taking up sailing to eventually buy a Quidnon. If I structure my life in such a way as to be able to afford sailing and eventually buying a Quidnon; all of the time and expense of doing the sailing and buying all of the stuff associated with sailing could have been spent doing more for others. This has me really quite torn as I am rather enamoured by the idea of sailing and living on the Quidnon; in the Carribean during the winter, and back to here in the summer. One idea I had, once I would have the Quidnon, since it has as much space as it does, would be, that while I am here during the summer, I could get in touch with various community groups and churches to find out if there are any families that they could recommend that would enjoy a day trip on a sail boat. In winter, I would have an open invite to anyone still living here to come south for a week or more where I would take care of everything from transiting from the flight to the Quidnon and providing food and drink.

Thinking further of the sailing; unless I can have others join me on the Quidnon for extended durations, I would then more likely become socially isolated. I've read that there have been studies that show that social interaction is one of the key ingredients to a healthy long life. So this would be another reason to not get into the sailing.

Nothing will advance until the house I currently own with the wife I am currently separated from gets sold. So that is really the first step; to get that house sold.

That a bus traveling at 103 kph sold evasive manoevres to only the passengers sitting in the back half of the bus for an augmented price speaks little to the quickness that a sordid elocutionist depends on Depends.
