East and west are just as directional as any other up or down. Right and left however can be opposed to wrong and arrive. Wrong and arrive are not directional in any sense except, perhaps, if you are wrong in arriving, say, in the lady's if you are male or vice versa.

South is below and the further south you go, the further south you are. There are very few places in the world where going further south than you are is impossible. There are many more places in the world where going further south than you are is difficult or impractical, but still possible. There are many places in the world where going south is but a step away.
