Earth Hour
So yes, our lights were off on Saturday night, not just from 8:00 until 9:00 but from dusk until the next morning. We went over to a friend's house who were also celebrating the Earth Hour so that we could make it a small communal affair. It is another couple who shares Green plans and ideas with us and who also have two children - all of us adults about the same age, all of our children about the same age. At 8:00 when we put the lights out the children went crazy, jumping around, running around, screaming. There were some well protected candles in strategic places so there was some light to see by, however, the noise and ruckus from the children made it so that any Greening-of-the-world conversation we wanted to have was frequently interrupted by the noise of our kids.
When we looked out the windows to see neighbouring houses we noticed two other houses that were dark but lit by candle-light. We did not notice any others. Then moments later, as street lights occasionaly do, the streetlight just outside of the house we were in went off, as if it, too, was celebrating Earth Hour with us.
My son is learning Chess at school as an extra-curricular activity so he was keen to play chess during Earth Hour. He and I played a short game that he gave up on, and then the other male adult and I played a well fought game that lasted perhaps as much as an hour. I had a few good power moves up until the midway point of the match but then lost in the end when my queen was surrounded with no possible escape.
How did you spend your Earth Hour?

i was unaware that it was earth hour, but in honor of it, i will make it a point to do something green.
I turned off my lights, etc...& walked the 4 blocks to my friends house who was also celebrating earth hour, unfortunately I didn't notice anyone else being green along the way. I sometimes wonder if we are the only two liberals in town.
