painting derelict hub caps
I have between two and six maple trees on my property.
This summer I will acquire the items necessary to tap the trees such that next spring I can get the sap from these maples to then make maple syrup.
Most of the people I talk to say that it is not worth the effort considering how much sap it takes to make the syrup (40:1). I figure if I can find a low cost method to do this, it can be an activity that I share with the kids.
Given X maple trees, I will need X spiles, depending on whether or not the spile has a hook, I may or may not need X hooks, and X buckets. Then I will need some number of containers to store the sap during the week. I will build a Rocket Stove that I will use to boil down the sap on each weekend of the spring.
