Boats help to keep the water out, so do raincoats. So does skin, water bottles and sub zero (celsius) temperatures.

You may think it odd that I suggest a water bottle be used to keep the water out, however, if it is as good at keeping water in as it is purported to be, it must also be as good at keeping water out.
