catch a twig, make it rain

It is rather odd that a large swath of the US had an enormous snow storm already and yet here where I live we were not touched, have had no precipitation whatsoever over the last seven days, and are having above seasonal temperatures.

While cleaning the lid to my cat's wet food last night I inadvertently cut my thumb. It hurt in the moment, as such things do, but soon after I had the bleeding stopped. It is nothing near as brutal as this time, which if you can recall it, you need not follow the link if it grossed you out the first time.

Oh, and if you hadn't noticed it, today is November 1st. I do not believe there is anything particularly remarkable about this day, save for the fact that it is the first day of November and there aren't any other first days. However, this could also be said for the second day of November, that there is only one such day. And so on, as the days of the month progress. So really, there isn't anything particularly interesting about today being November 1st.

The first Tuesday of November (this year being the 1st) IS remarkable in Australia for being the day that the Melbourne Cup race is run. It is known as the race that stops the nation. Women get all dressed up and wear silly hats and go either to the track or to a venue where the race will be shown on a big screen TV.

I have little interest in horse racing and rarely go to such events, however this year I went to a restaurant with my mum and sister and we all wore silly hats, as did all the other ladies there, so I didn't feel too foolish. Not as foolish, in fact, as one of the ladies there who wore a bright red hat with a brim that was so large she looked as if she would fall over sideways if she got out of balance. Hubby said I looked like I'd been attacked by a turkey. lol It was an enjoyable day, made better by being with my mum & sister.
