So the ceramic tiles are off and the wall is see through now. The black stuff stuck to the floor almost definitely means that we cannot reuse the flooring. Oh well. Let's add some cost to the project.

So here you can see through into the living room from the kitchen, and you can see the flooring is all black covered.

Here is looking into the kitchen from the living room, already we can get a sense of how this will be an open concept.

Looking good.

The worker this morning told us that the only effective way to get the black stuff off is with a torch and a scraper. The torch will embed some of the black melted goo into the wood, so following that would be a heavy round of sanding. All of this would be at about an equal expense to replacing the floor.

Without consulting us he ordered the plywood subflooring to put on top of this to install new ceramic tiles; we told him that he has to send it back; it is hardwood flooring we want. So now there is the added task of ripping off the flooring and installing the new floor.

The trouble with renovations is the more you do the more that needs to be done. At least it seems that way.
