Daddy and Me Day - G-bot

So when G-bot turned 5 I decided to start a tradition where each year, each child would get a one-on-one day with me. We've done a variety of things over the years and this year I wanted to go on a long walk with him, so I offered him the choice of an urban, suburban or rural walk and he picked suburban. Below is the plan I drew out for us in advance of the day (yesterday) we did it:

We were going to leave our house at 10:00, walk north on St-Jean, west on Donegani, north on Beacon Hill, north and west on Creswell and then north a bit on St. Charles to have lunch at Harveys. We had a fridge repair man come yesterday morning, however, and he came later than was originally planned, so we ended up catching the 201 bus at 11h28 to get to Harveys.

From Harveys, on the original plan, we were going to walk down to Beaconsfield boulevard, but because of the fridge repair man, we ended up taking the 200 bus at 12h07 from Harveys and got off at Harrow just after City Lane. I used Google Maps to figure out the contingency plans if we ended up missing the 11h28 bus from near our house, or if we took longer at Harveys, so the plan for the 12h34 200 bus would be to get off later, and for the 13h01 bus to get off later still.

We then walked along Beaconsfield until we walked south on Neveau, then west on Lakeshore until Morgan, north on Morgan until Chemin Ste-Marie, then east on Chemin Ste-Marie until we got to the Coliseum where we stopped to watch Elysium. It was pretty good, as far as sci-fi action movies go.

From the movie theatre we would walk east on Chemin Ste-Marie, south on Montrose, around Windermere and then east on Sherbrooke. Then south on St. Charles and then east on Elm which turns into Donegani and which turns into Cardinal. The original plan called for walking all the way to Dorval to end at my mother-in-law's house, but G-bot was flagging. An alternative was to walk to his swim lesson at 18h30 half way between St. Jean and des Sources, but he wasn't up to that either. So we ended up walking along Elm and Donegani until we got back to St. Jean where we headed home. It ended up being a bit over 17kms that we walked.

Fortunately the weather was between partly cloudy and mostly cloudy so we weren't in the hot sun for too long.

C-ling's Daddy and Me day will be in a couple of weeks.

Bicycle, actually. He asked on the penultimate day if we could bike. I had already had it in my head that we would do this plan, so maybe another time.

I am happy to hear that the day went well. Nothing better than a good long walk.

17kms is a long way for a child, I am not surprised he was flagging. I would be flagging too.

I knew my son had good stamina so I wasn't worried, and there were plenty of exit points by public transit if he had waned earlier.
