mixing paint with garrulosness
So there was K trying to convince the customer that a pie in the sky is like a lemonade stand, obviating the striking distance required to embellish ineffective obsequiousness when he (parenthetically) mentions a tie that he (K) thinks is sufficiently clever to make an idiomatic connection between the customer and I. My impression was this myopic idea was received like a house plant would welcome reruns of a 70s TV sitcom.
