whoa, long walk, early morning. Recall that clicking any of the photos makes them bigger and easier to see.
I had decided a few days ago to go for a long walk, leaving early in the morning. I awoke at 1h50 and took this photo a minute later.
I had already prepared my water bottle and a few snacks and had put my clothes out, so I was out of the apartment at pretty much 2h, didn't get a photo of the starting street (Ashgrove) but did get this first intersection off of Donegani.
I took Donegani to Maywood, and then Maywood to Douglas-Shand. It was overcast at the start of the walk, and no bird song.
Douglas-Shand and boul St-Jean have their street signs separated.
It was between Douglas-Shand and Hymus that I saw my first any only other night walker in the 2-3h time slot; she was walking south on the opposite side of the street while I was walking north on my side. Here is Hymus.
From Hymus to hwy 40 is just a small stretch.
And then it is a short stretch to Brunswick - I'm still walking north on boul St-Jean; this and the next couple are the cross streets I pass.
I turned east on Gouin from boul St-Jean, and perhaps 10 minutes later, around 3h30, I started hearing the birds start to sing. Wow, do they awake early; and I heard them the rest of my walk.
Next are two random streets along Gouin that I crossed on the way to getting to boul des-Sources.
It was right about this time that I noticed the moon, over the trees and houses; it was quite hazy. Then I reach the corner of Gouin and boul des-Sources where I turned south on boul des-Sources.
Just a few moments later I cross Pierrefonds blvd, still heading south on boul des-Sources.
It was about ten minutes later, around 4h15, that I started noticing the sky starting to get light in the direction where the sun would rise. Before I reached de Salaberry I encountered my second night-walker, a man who crossed this normally busy road to head to a 24h convenience store. Just a few moments later I noticed an older woman, standing on her balcony, facing the sun rise. I waved to her and she waved back. Brunswick came after de Salaberry.
And then it is a short distance to cross the highway again, and clearly the sky is lighter now.
It was just amazing to see this extremely well defined ridge of clouds on the left side of where the sun was rising.
On the other side of the highway, just south of it, the towers that will support the REM. In this particular spot it isn't just the elevated tracks that are being built, this is the location of an eventual station.
With my eyes I could see a gradual change of colours from the horizon to the top of the sky; my phone camera just blurred it all together.
The street signs for Belmont and des-Sources were separate; I turned west on Belmont from boul des-Sources. The sun hadn't risen yet at the time these two photos had been taken.
At 5h20 the sun rose and I was on my way through Chester, staying on Belmont.
Then I cross Valois Bay, and continued on Belmont to Coolbreeze, where I turned south, cut through the parking lot, and got to Ashgrove, where I live.
The building in the last photo above is the one I live in; you can see the sunlight hitting the upper floors, my apartment is in the back of the building, so I do not get much morning sun.
I got back home at 5h40.
I really enjoyed doing this; I will do it again sometime soon, but pick a different route.
