what fodder she says

My previous post was posted on the morning of a day that ought not to be forgotten of the year 2021.

I expect that by the end of this year, it may have been pushed into a distant unknown past depending on how many other notable events take place.

On that day thousands of Trump supporters performed an insurrection on the Capitol building where the electoral votes for the president-elect and vp-elect were in the process of being counted and confirmed. They ascended the hill upon which the buildings are, climbed a separation wall, over-ran the police force that was there (who did not put up significant resistance) and entered the building.

As they were breaching the building, the politicians inside were scurried into some bunker safe spot within the innards of the building. Many of these reported fearing for their life.

The mob entered the chamber within which the voting takes place; Nancy Pelosi's office was ransacked, windows were broken upon entry, and among other damages and trouble that was made, five people were killed, including one police officer.

On that same day Trump himself spurred the mob on, as did his flunky lawyer Rudy Giuliani.

In the lead up to this terrible event, numerous Republican elected officials downplayed the possibility of a rise-up such as this all the while agreeing vociferously with Trump about the presidential election having been a fraud, and that many illegal votes were cast.

State election officials representing all of the states have many times indicated that the election was sound and fair and that the counts were accurate and legal. Upwards of 50 election fraud lawsuits claimed by the Republican team were thrown out of court; but this didn't stop Trump himself from over and over again spitting out his litany of lies concerning the election.

Roughly 73 million Americans voted for Trump and likely a large number of these feel that the election had been stolen from them. Even after he is no longer president, some nine days hence, those people will continue to believe that the election was a fraud, and that the new president does not have the right to represent them. Given this, it is likely that further protests by Trump supporters will persist; or, lone-gunman types of civil unrest.

Though there is likely significantly more that I have in my head that could be said about this, I'll end off with just one last item. Back in 2020 there were a number of peaceful BLM protests country-wide (and even worldwide) that in the US were violently ended by large riot-gear protected police forces. There was even a publicity stunt where Trump had BLM protestors violently removed so he could have a photo op. The lesson we've learned is that when BIPOC people protest, police forces come in large numbers to terrorize these peaceful protests. When white male protesters enter the capital, the police force let them in, and, at the end, let most of them out without even a recorded violation warning.
