run update

So... I am back on the running campaign to run 5km in under 23 minutes in my first race of the season (sometime in May) and under 22 minutes by the last race (October). Five races this season if all goes well. My treadmill is in miles and I ran 3.2 miles in 30 minutes, the 3.2 is hardly precise, but anyhow, that is 5.15KM, so I averaged 5.83 minutes per km. What I was pleased with as my first run since last October is that I ran the 5.15km without stopping once. Between now and when it gets warm enough to train outdoors I need to bring the distance up when I run 30 minutes, or keep the distance the same when I run 29 minutes then later on 28.

It never ceases to amaze me that people can run such distances after a big break. I am impressed!

If you have incline on your treadmill I would suggest you add a slight incline to your runs. Treadmills have a certain amount of 'give' which you don't get on the road so the incline just makes it a little more like road running.

deb: That is exactly what I did, 2% incline. I changed the incline from before I even started so that from the very first moment I was working uphill. I'm thinking I may increase it to 3 or 4% as I'm not sure that 2% is enough.
