Tinges of OCD.
I tend to sweep into a corner where the breeze cannot blow away bits and humans and dog will not walk over it.
I tend to pick up the debris almost immediately, so the passing of people and cat is not likely during that short passage of time.
ghost: because that square seems to me to be the natural destination for stuff on the floor that needs to be swept.
but won't a sense of mystery be lost? And won't it be easy to sink your battleship?
