YUL -> CDG

So my wife decided a few years back to celebrate her Xth birthday in Paris, so off we are going in January.

The kids are staying home, but the friends are coming. Eight of us all told from my city, two more from the west coast of Canada, one from England, and possibly two more from my city will be going. Today we booked the flight, with eight of us confirmed. The seats in the aircraft are arranged like this:

abc defg hjk
xxx xxxx xxx

So the big question is, if we are to book our seats, what seats do we book?

If the plane is full of people, I'd say we get two rows of abcd, or two rows of ghjk.

If the plane is very much empty of people I'd say we take seat d in eight rows and we all have four seats to lie down on.

Some in our group of eight may recommend abcdefgh or cdefghjk but I don't think all in one row would be as nice as two rows of four since the person in a will not be able to speak to the person in h, but the person in a could speak to the person in d in the row behind or ahead.

My normal preference when I've flown on business on my own in the past is to get a window seat as I tend to sleep on the aircraft for most of the duration of the flight. On this trip, however, as I am not a particularly large person, I would be willing and okay to sit in a middle seat between two friends.

I agree with you, abcd is preferable. I always choose an aisle seat because I get restless quickly and need to get up and move around a lot. When we went to Vanuatu we played cards with the ones behind us.

In the email thread talking about the tickets one person said they need an aisle because he is really tall. Another wants an aisle because she goes to the bathroom often. Another wants a window because she prefers to sleep against the side of the aircraft. Another wants someone to lean and drool on. It will be interesting to see if already at this very early stage of the trip if personalities collide.
