That February as a month has the fewest number of days did not leave me any better off in those late teen years where I felt the month dragged off into a perpetuity that was a well worn blanket providing little warmth. These days February is just another one of the twelve, to be passed through with kids' activities, a job, chores and so on. It comes as no surprise to me that Bell picks January 28 for Let's Talk day; it comes at the depth of winter when some limits are reached.
In other terrible news, my city had an escalator victim this morning. We take for granted that these people moving mechanisms are there for us but a moment of carelessness can really have a serious repercussion.

When my sister was about 3years old she poked at a button on the escalator and stopped it. Mechanics had to come and start it again. While it was embarrassing for my mother this knowledge proved useful because a year or so later my other sister decided to sit on the step just as they were about to get off, her dress got caught and mum was able to stop the escalator quickly. They still had to rip her dress to get her free.
I remember the one in Boston, 2005. Alcohol was involved.
When I worked at the old library here, the escalator was a huge draw for small children, and I kept an eye out to herd them away from it.
