So they removed all of the cabinets today and the shell of the wall to be removed on the kitchen side. This has opened up something we hadn't known until the wall was opened up. Read on...
Here's the wall to be removed without the shell of the wall.
Here on the left where the fridge was they only had to remove the cabinet.
Here on the floor we can see our cat Leo, the shape of where the peninsula used to be, and behind the lack of cabinets against the back wall.
To the left of the patio door, no more cabinets.
Here's a closeup where of course the cat wanted to get in - to show that underneath it all there is the wood floor we are hoping for, the big question is what shape is it in under the ceramic tile.
So here we can see the black pipe on the right, which we knew about and have to build around, but we didn't know (though if we had looked carefully enough in the basement, we would have seen it) that there is a vent of our air movement system in this wall we want to remove up to the second floor. This is something for which we will need to find a solution.
If you'll recall in previous photos of the kitchen, there was a pink bulkhead along three sides of the kitchen. On this one it was to hide this pipe that sticks into the room running along the ceiling, but below the ceiling and out from the wall. We will need to have the kitchen built around this.
Tomorrow they will work on removing the ceramic tile floor and we will see what is underneath, if it is salvageable or not.

Oh, a little duck tape will solve everything.
home remodeling is one of my least favorite things in life.
If the duck tape could render the ventilation system still operational in its present form and yet totally transparent and, in fact, non-existent, the it would work just fine.
ghost; this is why we are paying someone else to do it - I get to take photos while other people do the actual work.
:-) Home archeology.
Is Leo all confused & inquisitive?
