Thinking traps

So the thing I went to yesterday wasn't as interesting to me as last year's version. We learned about thinking traps and how to get out of them. Things like prejudice, personalization, snap judgements, predisposition and a few others. In most of the cases the issue is that we come to a conclusion with insufficient information and then behave in a certain way based on the incomplete information. The way to get out of the thinking trap is to remove one's certainty about what they are thinking/feeling, attempt to gain a new understanding that encompasses more of the facts and then come either back to your point which you can now support knowing it's been thought through, or, find a reconciliation point.

There weren't as many exercises during the workshop to get the ideas across as there were last year and the lunch was rather pathetic.

But still, the experience of learning something in this way is very appealing, so more than likely next year we'll sign up to do it again. Hopefully the topic will be more interesting.

Oh and on Saturday I accumulated nine more bags of leaves.

This past weekend's leaf bag count: 9 bags
Total Leaf Bag Count for Fall 2014: 18 bags.

It's good to consider how you form judgements and if you can change that. I used to do stuff like that a lot once upon a time.

Ultimately it comes down to learning to be able to think before reacting.

It sounds like an interesting learning session to me. It reminds me a lot of being aware of cognitive dissonance. INFPs tend to be good at reflecting upon these things and recognizing cognitive dissonance or thinking traps.

It's too bad lunch was disappointing.
